Meet Dr. Parisio

Laura Parisio-Wood, Bvetmed MRCVS, CVMMP grew up in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. She completed a bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Equine Studies from Alfred University in NY, before crossing the pond to receive her veterinary degree from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, England. Following graduation in 2007, her participation in internship programs at Rhinebeck Equine in New York State and The New Jersey Equine Clinic in central NJ gave her a broad range of exposure to equine medical care, from wellness to sport horse medicine. In 2018 she became certified in Equine Veterinary Medical Manipulation (the veterinary equivalent to chiropractic therapy) through the Integrative Veterinary Medical Institute near Ocala, FL.

After her internship years, Dr. Parisio joined a private equine practice in central NJ in 2009, where she practiced for 10 years before moving to Massachusetts in 2020. She has continued working in general Equine Practice throughout the New England region since her transition and currently holds an associate position with an Equine Dental practice in western MA.

Throughout her career thus far, Dr. Parisio has enjoyed many aspects of general equine practice.  She considers preventative health care to be central to her role as a veterinarian and has strived to practice with a “big picture” state-of-mind towards her patients. With Nashaway Equine, she proudly offers services that she is particularly passionate about. Both dentistry and spinal manipulation aim to enhance a horse’s comfort, health, and wellbeing. Dr. Parisio has been incorporating dentistry into her practice for over a decade, fine-tuning her skills and continuing to learn through the many advances in this field. Spinal manipulation is a skill that aids both in the diagnosis of existing discomfort as well as the maintenance of mobility and strength for the horse. She enjoys the response from her patients to this therapy and continues to learn its many benefits.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Parisio is busy raising two very active children with her husband Tom, cooking, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. She is proud to call the town of Lancaster, known as “the meeting of the waters” her home and looks forward to serving the equine community in this beautiful part of New England.
